India, private home in Chennai Residential

The concept for this private home in Chennai, India, was dictated by the customer’s request to design a building that would integrate seamlessly with the surrounding landscape and stay true to architectural tradition but with a sleeker, more contemporary interpretation. Entrusted with the architecture and interior design, the studio of Arvind Varuna Associates crafted a home that blends elegance and comfort, and incorporates local decorative elements, in a mix as successful as it is eclectic.

The materials employed tend toward the organic choices, like marble, along with stone, glass combined with teak, and a color palette of natural shades, for a ‘natural chic’ effect that is also echoed in the choice of seating upholstery, for the most part a sophisticated beige leather. The spacious, light-filled living room is furnished with a corner composition of the Allen seating system, paired with Blake-Soft armchairs and Perry and Brice coffee tables. A second lounge area features Sherman sofas flanked by Jensen armchairs, Sullivan coffee tables and a Wilson console. In the master bedroom, the Bedford Bed holds pride of place, with Morrison nightstands, Kirk Bench and a Jensen armchair and matching footstool.
